Preseason Preparation

Itís so important to come into the season in shape and prepared to avoid injury, and to be prepared to go right into workouts. Hereís what you should be doing.

  • Distance

    • New runners should start out with EASY 15-20 minute runs, working up to 30 minutes, 4-6 days a week

    • Returning runners: easy 30-45 minutes 4-6 days a week.

  • Sprinters

    • Easy 20 minutes, core, stretch 4-6 days a week.

  • Monday-Friday 3:30-5:15, Saturday 9-11 (unless otherwise noted)

    • Distance athletes may start earlier on some days so that they can get their distance runs in before it gets dark.

  • Please bring necessary items to practice.

    • Trainers

    • Workout Clothes (for both inside and outside practice)

    • Watches (mandatory for distance)

    • Water

    • Inhalers, braces, etc for those who need them.

  • Practice will focus on the running events. We will practice with throwers as much as possible, but once itís too cold to be outside, throwing and lifting opportunities will be limited.

  • If you want to compete, you must be at practice.

    • If you have to miss practice, let us know.

  • The meet schedule will be posted once the meets become available. We will hopefully have it for day 1 of practice.

  • Meets are limited due to limited facilities in the state.

  • Some meets will have entry standards which will only allow us to bring athletes who have qualified.

  • Some meets limit entries of athletes per team per event. We will do our best to get everyone to compete.

  • Indoor meets are notoriously long sometimes. Itís important that you are prepared to be properly nourished and hydrated throughout the day, so bringing food/snacks/water is really important.

  • If you will be coming late or leaving meets early, be sure to fill out the travel release that is on the athletics website.
